Emi (社長’s daughter) bought the newbies – 2 taiwanese girls, a jap woman from kobe (神戸) and me (just happens to be all girls this time) – to boya farm last sunday. boya farm is a sheep farm which also breeds n trains shepherd dogs. hopeland has its dog, Parco, training there now. hopeland has no sheep, but very creatively, the farm has come up with the idea of using a shepard dog to herd their pigs 😉 in fact, this idea is so innovative that hopeland has got on a few tv shows lately. there will be another 1-hr show on NHK at 7:30pm (prime time 8) ) on Jul 25. not about Parco, but about the farm this time. so the dog n the idea of a 牧豬犬 (not sheep dog, but pig dog) has got hopeland famous now.
the 1-hour shepherd dog show hosted by 安西さん (Mr Anzai), not bad, but what really good is yet to come
Emi and Anzai are good friends, so we got the chance to go backstage n did some “real work” – feeding the sheeps.
first with grass
then with some kinda sheep feed, which they love so much that they all came over, kept squeezing n pushing my legs… i couldnt even stand still
n very last, to make sure they r all happily full n satisfied, more grass
Thx Mr Anzai for taking all these pix for me
(安西さん、私の写真を摂ってくれて、ありがとうございました)
with Emi n Boya Farm’s famous dogs, Andy and Phil
That’s 今野さん(Mr Konno), the cow & pig expert, a very nice man
This is はな (Hana), one of the two guernseys hopeland has. guernsey makes good creamy milk, better yet less than those typical black-n-white holsteins
a very friendly horse of the farm next door. i really like to horse 😀
Wow, that’s really awesome! thanks for sharing all these with us! I’m proud to have a friend like you :p
wow… this looks really fun! What do they farm the pigs for? Their meat? It somehow feel sad to me that you know you will kill them soon.
BTW, you should try to train Oscar to herd when you return
This must be a very fun experience! Did you try the milk? I really wonder how does such ‘FRESH’ milk taste like!!
ya, for the meat. hopeland sells its pigs to restaurants. at first i thought its a bit sad too, but then, i think as long as we treat them nicely when they r alive, its good. thats part of the life cycle, the pigs should understand hehe 🙂
thx carmen. i will play harder n have more fun, so to make sure u will be very proud of me. wahahahaha 😀
of course i did. we always have fresh milk. hopeland milks its cows 2 times a day. hopeland has good cows, their milk is good, creamy n tasty, good enough to have me, who dont drink milk usually, drink it often.
Did the cows kick you when you were milking them? They are very mean sometimes. hahaha
i know this is a old post, but on the off chance that you check replies, could you tell me which farm this is?
i’m interested in volunteering at an animal farm like this too!
