i changed my plan in the last minute. there are much in sapporo that i thought i wouldnt have enough time if starting my day in the late morning. so instead of going to sapporo on the first day, i went to otaru. n luckily, i got it right, for otaru needed no more than half a day.
i started frm minami otaru station n walked towards the otaru station direction, there r many souvenir shops n restaurants along the way, plus there is the famous otaru canal. if u aint a big fan of glass accessories nor a big time shopper, half day in otaru should be enough. i took things slowly n just sat around near the canal till sunset, n headed back to sapporo after an early dinner of hakkaku fish (八角魚).
a good kaiten sushi (回転すし）restaurant i learned from another wwoofer’s guidebook, yummy n cheap, lucky that nao n i went there early (at 12ish), for i saw many ppl waiting by the time we left
it seems like every shop in otaru is either selling glass accessories and/or food for おみやげ
the very popular otaru canal, so many chinese tourists there (both mandarin and cantonese speakers), esp around the time of the sunset, n in batches too!
while i was sitting around the canal waiting for the sunset, i heard someone calling my name n there was filex again! o man, the world is so small huh, we bumped into each other exactly a week ago when we were in furano. it seems quite easy to bump into someone u know (esp those from hong kong 🙂 ) when u r at a popular sightseeing spot in japan
dinner in a food stall (屋台) that serves hakkaku fish (八角魚), i went here cuz i wanted to try hakkaku, n its actually pretty good even though the presentation looks a little scary, yet its nothing comparable with the squid rice bowl (イカ丼） i had later in the morning market of Hakodate (函館朝市) though… 😯
